U.S. House of Representatives Majority Whip Jim Clyburn Endorses Marilyn Strickland for Congress
Marilyn Continues to Build Broad Local and National Coalition of Support
TACOMA, WA – Marilyn Strickland announced today that United States House of Representatives Majority Whip Jim Clyburn has endorsed her campaign to represent Washington’s 10th Congressional District, the latest endorsement in a growing coalition of local and national support for Marilyn.
If elected, Strickland will be the first African-American from the Pacific Northwest elected to Congress, and the first Korean-American woman to serve in Congress. Her first place finish in the August 4 primary election, and a recent survey of likely voters shows Marilyn with a strong lead and clear path to victory for November.
James E. Clyburn is the Majority Whip, the third-ranking Democrat in the United States House of Representatives, and currently serves as the Chairman of the House Select Committee on the Coronavirus Crisis. He is also the Chairman of the Rural Broadband Task Force and Democratic Faith Working Group.
“I am deeply honored to have the support of a respected national leader and icon like Whip Clyburn. As President Barack Obama once said, when Whip Clyburn speaks, ‘the entire Congress listens.’ He is a man of deep compassion and faith, and a true public servant committed to fairness and delivering a better deal for all Americans,” said Strickland. “I am excited to work with Whip Clyburn to deliver results for the people of our local communities and our country so we can recover and rebuild.”
“Marilyn Strickland is the kind of leader we need in Congress working. She will work to rebuild America and secure America’s families. Marilyn has what it takes to get the job done for the South Sound: proven leadership, determination, and a passion for bringing people together. Marilyn will always keep her focus on getting results for her community – not just slogans – and I look forward to working with Marilyn in the United States Congress.” said Whip Clyburn.
