Donald Trump and his Republican allies have shut down our federal government. The reason is simple: They want to continue to strip away health care from millions of Americans. Instead of stopping the health care cuts, they shut down our government.
The South Sound – and Americans everywhere – deserve better.
Republicans Control Every Level of Our Federal Government. This Is Their Government Shutdown.
A Republican is sitting in the White House. Republicans control the Senate. And they control the House of Representatives. They control everything and they own this government shutdown. It’s their responsibility to deliver a budget plan that doesn’t continue to cut health care. They haven’t done that.
Donald Trump & the Republicans Have Created A Health Care Crisis. Now They’re Refusing to Stop the Health Care Cuts and the Spike in Health Care Costs.
Republicans in Washington have created a health care crisis. That’s because Republicans’ Big, Ugly Law guts Medicaid and rips away lifesaving tax credits for health care. Hospitals are at risk of closing, nursing homes could shut down, and health care costs will rise for millions more people. Here in Washington State, these Medicaid cuts impact at least 194,000 on Apple Health – the name of our state’s Medicaid program – and our state would lose $2 billion in Medicaid funding over the next four years. Health care premiums could rise by 76 percent.
This is a crisis of Republicans’ own making.
Republicans continue to prioritize giving tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans, leaving working people behind.
And now, they’re refusing to do anything to prevent Americans from facing a massive health care price spike.
I’m Fighting to Find A Bipartisan Path Forward on the Budget, Stop the Health Care Cuts, and Reopen Our Government
Democrats are ready to negotiate a bipartisan budget that helps the American people, but we won’t stand by and green light an extreme and partisan budget plan that causes even more harm by continuing the health care cuts.
We’re going to keep fighting to stop the cuts and protect Americans’ access to affordable health care.
